Hiking in the Allgäu

The hiking trilogy – in triple harmony with nature

Here, famous mountains such as the Falkenstein, the Breitenberg, the Aggenstein and many more are on your doorstep.

The three routes of the hiking trilogy are your opportunity to discover the varied countryside of the Allgäu. In this respect, the hiking trilogy consists of the Wiesengänger (meadow walker), the Wasserläufer (water runner) and the Himmelsstürmer (heaven hotspur). Each of these three hiker archetypes inhabits their own well-developed hiking area in which they feel most at home. At the same time, the hiking areas are interconnected and allow for experimentation, so a water runner is able to venture out on a mountain tour. Let us now present the trio in detail for our guests both young and old. Find out which type you belong to!

As a stopover point, Pfronten is at the intersection of the water runner and heaven hotspur route.

This is where the many lakes in the undulating Alpine foothills are equally as inspiring as the rugged peaks of the Allgäu and Tyrolean Alps. The two routes run through the trilogy areas of the “Castle Park” and “Summit Worlds”. Regardless of the option that you choose, the history of the region is ever-present.

In the land of the fairy-tale king Ludwig II, the paths of the hiking trilogy lead through a royal landscape which resembles a palace park, with its rolling hills, picturesque lakes and dreamy and magical palaces. This castle park tells the story of a unique landscape with places that are enchanting and historical, a wild, mystical nature and a fairy-tale palace. Hikers find themselves in an aristocratic landscape, and immerse themselves in a romantic world of times thought to be long gone by.

Meadow walker route

The meadow walker wanders through the hilly scenery or the terraced landscape of the Allgäu. They are a beginner to the world of hiking who likes the great outdoors and just wants to enjoy themselves. They therefore prefer less demanding, scenic routes. Along the way, they encounter drumlins, glacial deposits and moorland. The meadow walker prefers longer walks.

Water runner route

The water runner is the adventure-seeking hiker in the foothills of the Alps. They are seeking something more challenging than the meadow walker, but they aren’t mountaineers.

The water runner finds the watercourses and small waterfalls just as inspiring as the many lakes in the Allgäu.

Length: 374 km

Heaven hotspur route

The heaven hotspur is the sporty, ambitious hiker. They want to get away from it all and find nature at its most unspoilt in the higher, more rugged mountainous worlds of the Allgäu. They are happy to let an experienced mountain guide teach them the secrets of the peaks or lead them to a hidden mountain lake. As the heaven hotspur seeks to conquer great altitudes, their daily walking stages are shorter.
